I recently read an article by Dr. Mercola about household appliances putting out high Electro-Magnetic Fields (EMFs). The claim is that high EMFs can cause cancer if you are constantly exposed. One of the devices mentioned was hair dryers which are used close to your head and put out high EMFs when you are using them. Since the wife and I try to lead a healthy lifestyle, the idea of shooting our heads with high EMFs every time we dry our hair did not sound appealing. So, I started looking for a new hair dryer that had reduced EMFs. This particular hair dryer said it was quiet and had low EMF. This dryer also had other buzzwords it used in its description: ionic, ceramic and tourmaline. Ionic dryers use negative ions to shrink water droplets in the hair. Manufacturers claim this dries wet hair faster with less heat damage, creating smoother and shinier strands. Ceramic dryers contain ceramic coils. Unlike metal, this material is said to be self-regulating to prevent overheating. Lastly, tourmaline, a gemstone that is added to the heater of tourmaline hair dryers, is thought to generate a higher number of negative ions than regular ionic dryers. I don't know about any of this stuff. I bought this dryer because they said it was quiet (the old one we have was pretty noisy) and it had low EMF. So, we have had this dryer for some time now and the claims of low noise are true. Your ears are not ringing after using this dryer. Plus it has 2 different speed settings and 2 different heat settings. I like the medium heat/speed and my wife likes the high speed/heat settings. I can't measure the EMF so I can't say if the low EMF claims are true, but I do like this dryer. It dries fast and it is a lot quieter.
